Blog Post #2- Ads That Speak to My Interests

https://youtu.be/Jr36VK4Wtb8

This Ad Speaks to my personal tastes and interests because I am very protective of my good as well as my family. This ad uses various camera angles throughout it. This includes close-ups of the little boy and the man in the ad. The speaker in this add is a middle aged man and a little boy. The little boy being a son of a single mother is very protective of his mother. They use the perspective of the little kid but not the perspective of the man because. The literal message of this add is that the kid is going to protect his Doritos and his mother because he loves them very much and this man coming into their household has not yet earned the right of having any Doritos or his mother. The hidden message in this add is that the audience should buy their product because it is worth fighting for. This ad uses pathos quite a bit because it uses various emotions to try and persuade the audience. The first one that it uses hunger, this can be seen when it does a close up of a bowl of Doritos that are all perfect full sized chips that look very appetizing. Another example of pathos is when it appeals to the emotion of love because the kid loves and wants to protect his mother. The last one that it uses is humor, this add is rather funny so it tries to make the audience laugh in order to convince them to buy their product. This add is rather convincing in making people buy Doritos because it makes them laugh as well as showing images of the product looking very tasty.

This ad speaks to my tastes because it is about football and madden which is a video game that I really enjoy playing. This ad uses various camera angles to show all of the different NFL players and music artists dancing. It also uses fast paced music to get the audience feeling of wanting to get on their feet and dance. The speakers of this ad are various NFL rookies and a second year NFL player Juju Smith-Schuster. It is told the from the perspective of Juju and how he is frustrated that the rookies are not good at celebrations. There is a heavy amount of Ethos and Logos used in this ad. They use ethos by including professional athletes and music artists to represent their product and to show how they are also enjoying the new video game coming out. There is also logos because it shows the game play of the game and how there are fancy new features that were not included before. This ad is convincing because it uses famous people to represent their product and they show new features added which makes the audience want to buy the product to experience these features.

Blog post #1- Media and technology

Hi,
I am Boaz and I use media and technology in my everyday life in all aspects of my life. I use it as a form of entertainment which I feel is the primary use of technology associated with my generation and in some cases this may be true. Though I do use technology and media as a big part of my life in-terms of entertainment (TV, videogames, social media, etc.) I find that I use it for other, more productive reasons more frequently. I use it first and foremost for school and furthering my education. This is why I disagree with people trying to prevent technology from becoming a larger part of the education system. After that i then would put my use for entertainment at second. I then would say my next use for it is in my athletics, This may come as a shock to some of you but it is true. Since I have entered High school I have spent countless hours looking at film for my high school football team to help better understand my opponent. So though I may use it for entertaining myself I also use it for very practical purposes too.

In class We discussed four different commercials, two of which were dove commercials, one was a greenpeace commercial, and the other was for Rimmel. Each of these commercials were trying to convey a message to change the world for the better. The first dove commercial depicted a little girl who looked very innocent and happy with life and herself, it then depicted several graphic images of how the beauty industry is taking over the world and is lowering the self-esteem of girls. This is then followed up with the little girl from the beginning of the add looking sad and wearing lipstick as the words “talk to your daughter before beauty does.” This ad is trying to convey a positive self image for all women and that you do not have to fall in line with these expectations that society has set for you. They are trying to gain support for their company by being activists for a better society. The second Dove commercial follows the same concept of the previous one, trying to promote a better self image. This add uses examples of various people that have been told that their appearance does not fit their profession or way of life. They then stand up to those statements using the concept that this is my body so i should be the one to define what beauty is and that it should not me determined by society. The Rimmel add tries to use this same idea as the previous add but rather than just focus on the promotion of positive self image they also promote their product unlike dove. They show people standing up for positive image but using their makeup products. The last add is more of a critique on dove and their products. They took the template of the first add i mentioned and used it against them, It was not that they were protesting the promotion of positive self image but they were taking a very positive ad and putting a negative spin on it. This add depicts the destruction of forests in indonesia and claimed that it was used for palm oils in dove products. It made dove seem like a villain using their own ad.
